Using compressed charcoal on 18×24 in paper, I did this drawing of my dorm room for my drawing class. The assignment was to draw a space that had one light on at night. My art professor always said that there should be three distinct values in our work (light, mid, dark). In this drawing, the darkness of the shadows gives a sense of depth in contrast to the white areas. I am particulary happy with the appearance of the lamp and dresser.
