Rindina is a streamer on twitch, who primarily streams variations of Minecraft. On Twitch, users can support their favorite streamers by paying to subscribe. Subscribers receive several in-chat benefits, including a badge by their name and access to unique emotes. These emotes are uniquely created for the streamer and often reference inside jokes or nicknames or are related to common events that occur in stream. For this project, Rindina commissioned me to create four emotes for her subscribers. The ‘troll,’ the ‘dog,’ and the ‘eye roll,’ were new, and the ‘eat’ was an update of an old emote. I chose to create them in Adobe Illustrator so I could add details and so that they could be adjusted to various sizes. The emotes had to be relatively simple and yet detailed. I wanted to match the colors and visuals of her other emotes, whilst creating simple and fun designs. Rindina had specific visual goals for the ‘dog’ emote, as it is an illustration of representation of her dog, Bear. The others were up to me to give ideas, which I drew from my experience both as a viewer and a designer.
